The thirteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China at Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China from 6-16 September 2017.
TerrAfrica will host two side events on “Fighting Land Degradation at the Landscape Level” led by the World Bank and “Introducing AfriOCAT for an Improved Knowledge on Sustainable Land and Water Management in Africa” led by NEPAD. There will also be an exhibition on “The Faces of TerrAfrica” display, as well as latest TerrAfrica videos and publications. Details on the two side events are as follows;
Session: Fighting Land Degradation at the Landscape Level
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 13 from 18h00 to 20h00
Session Description: The session will showcase the land restoration agenda in Africa, discuss transformative actions and future opportunities for landscape management. It contributes to the ongoing dialogue about measures to reduce the vulnerability and enhance the resilience of populations living in drylands.
Session: Introducing AfriOCAT for an Improved Knowledge on Sustainable Land and Water Management in Africa
Date & Time: Thursday, September 14 from 18h00 to 20h00
Session Description: Knowledge provision on SLWM through an African Knowledge Network to promote best practices to combat desertification and restore land in Africa.
At COP13, the Parties will decide on the Strategic Framework that will guide action under the Convention from 2018-2030.
