The Fifteenth Session of the TerrAfrica Executive Committee (TAEC 15) was held at the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Complex in Nairobi, Kenya, from 15-16 October 2016. The meeting was the first following the adoption in December 2015 of a new five-year TerrAfrica business plan (2016-2020), which emphasizes a broader focus on landscapes approach to address land degradation at scale in sub-Saharan Africa.
The objectives of the meeting were to:
– Ensure partners are well informed about the state of the partnership and progress in implementation of TerrAfrica investments,
– Strengthening of synergies and coordination for effective delivery on various landscapes/restoration/SLWM initiatives that share similar goals and partners, and
– provide directions on the priorities for the next programming year.
The meeting was co-chaired by the NEPAD Agency (Estherine Lisinge-Fotabong) and the World Bank (Philippe Dardel). Participation improved from 2015’s TAEC, with 6 country delegates, most core partners (AUC, GEF, FAO, UNCCD/GM, UNDP, CILSS… except IFAD, AfDB and UNEP) and, worth noticing, EC, GIZ, OSS, IUCN, WRI and a few private sector and CSOs representatives.
